Take the Tour

What better way to truly understand how our delicious Northumberland Cheeses are made, than by spending an hour or so in our shoes (or wellies to be precise!). Our friendly and experienced cheesemakers will share with you the story from the moment the milk is delivered directly from the farm, through the churning, molding, brining, maturing, and packaging until that great moment when the cheese is in your hand. An experience like no other; step behind the scenes and take the chance to understand what it means to be truly local and completely traceable.

Please note: tours are only available Tuesday to Thursday and are subject to cheese production. Tours must be booked in advance, and we cannot normally accomodate impromptu visits. Please can you give us at least 24 hours notice so we can prepare everything ready for your visit. Children must be aged 10 years and above to attend any tours. 

Afterwards, enjoy the fruits of our labour in our Cheese Loft Café, where you will be given the chance to sample the cheeses you have seen handmade and tempt you in to enjoy either our infamous cheese soup or an alternative flavour.


We have two types of tours for you to choose from below. We hope you can understand that unfortunately children under the age of 10 are not able to attend any of our tours due to health and safety.


Option 1 - Dairy Tour

An intimate Dairy Tour and Cheese Tasting Experience after a hearty brunch in the Cheese Loft Café. Choose from our hearty brunch menu, plus a cup of filter coffee or Rington's tea.


£20.00 per child aged 10 -15

£25.00 per adult (aged 16 and above)

Tours start at 10am and last for approximately 2 hours, (timings may change depending on how busy we are). To keep the tours intimate and personal there is a maximum number of 6 people per tour. Regretably the tour is not suitable for wheelchair users. 


Please note that our Dairy Tours do not run throughout October, November and December as we are too busy making cheese for Christmas!

UPDATE: There is limited availablity for August and September 2014 as our "Dairy Diary" is getting very full. However, vouchers can be purchased now for visits in January to September 2015 - horray!


Option 2 - Cheese Making Day

A Cheese Making Day includes getting your hands dirty and deep in the cheese making process, a Cheese Tasting Experience, lunch in the Cheese Loft Café and a Truckle of Cheese made by your fair hands.


£85.00 per adult

£150.00 for two adults

This tour is not suitable for children.


For those of you who want to be fully and actively involved in the cheese making process we have a unique offering which allows you to experience a ‘day in the life of a cheesemaker’.

Our Cheese Making Days start at around 9am and run until 3pm. It is a full day which see’s you perform the necessary and hands on steps in the cheese making process. Three months later we will send you your truckle (400g) of cheese that you have personally made, there can’t be many better achievements in life than that!


The maximum number of amateur cheese makers on any cheese making day will be 2 people. 


Please note that our Cheese Making Days do not run throughout October, November and December as we are too busy making cheese for Christmas! We are now fully booked for 2014 (if you have already puchased a voucher for 2014, please call Jacks to book). But, as with tours, you can buy vouchers now for redemption from January - September 2015.
