Our lovely farmers....

Farming... here is where cheese making all begins. We are extremely lucky to be based on the Blagdon Estate: not only is it a beautiful location, but we can also source our cows' milk from the farm on the estate. This is fantastic for two main reasons:  1) Our milk is traceable: We get all of our dairy milk from the farm on the estate (the cows are less than 2 miles away from us), and so if we had any difficulties with our milk, we could get to the root of any problem quickly. ...

Christmas Gift Guide 2016

If this were a magazine, we'd call it 'Editor's Pics'... but it isn't, it's a blog, so it's Charlie's pics (she chose the selection, so it's not like it's biased or anything...): First up is the Christmas Eve Cheese Board: Cheese is obviously amazing at any point during the Christmas period. However, we know that turkey sandwiches take...

British Food Fortnight

British Food Fortnight was founded in 2002 in response to the foot and mouth crisis that hit British farming. Luckily, that crisis isn't part of our landscape now, so it's a campaign which allows us to shout about the bounty of British food producers that we have in the UK, and celebrate them! Local food gets a lot of positive publicity, and we are certainly ...

Northumberland Cheese has been adding to its trophy cabinet!

Northumberland Cheese Company has had a fantastically successful summer of awards this year. We began with the Artisan Cheese Awards in Melton Mowbray (they were at the end of April, but we think that almost counts as summer!), where we were delighted to gain a Bronze award for our Brinkburn in the best goats' cheeese category, and we won a silver award for best newcomer for Northumberlandia; we were especially excited about this, as Northumberlandia is a new face in the cheese world this...

In addition, we can also supply fresh or frozen cow or goats' c...

Northumberlandia

Last year, it was time for Martin, our head cheesemaker, to create a cheese of his own. Originally from the North East, Martin wanted to make a cheese which paid homage to his surroundings. After experimenting with the acidity of the cheese, he was delighted to produce a cheese which was sharp in bite, but creamy in finish, and with a delightful crumbly texture. Thus this fabulous cheese was born. Keen to experiment further, the dairy then began waxing the cheese. Martin didn’t hesitate...

We're changing the way that we package our Blagdon Blue cheese

We are changing the way that we package our Blagdon Blue Cheese. Blagdon Blue in its previous incarnation was a round truckle of cheese, weighing 225g. We would find on occasion that it was drying out too quickly, and it didn't stay at optimum texture. The barn was filled with nanny goats and their kids of varying shades, including a sweet golden baby goat that Tessa was particularly fond of.   So how old is this little one? ...
